Please note, I am no longer accepting graduate students

The Physical Petrology Group emphasizes the physics of magmas, hydrothermal systems, metamorphism, and eruption processes. Students develop and learn a diverse suite of tools to address these systems: numerical modeling, laboratory experiments, geological and geophysical measurements, and theoretical foundations of physical chemistry and continuum mechanics. All students are encouraged to do fieldwork and to develop transport models in a sensible geologic context.

Synthesis of information from multiple sources and scales allows us to get a more accurate picture of petrologic processes.

Many of our systems of interest lie in the transition areas between discrete and continuous models.
